Dominique Ambassador to the UN Loreen Ruth Bannis Roberts said the resolution of the Sahara conflict will contribute to the strengthening of stability and security in Sahel and Sahara.
"The resolution of this dispute will undoubtedly contribute to the strengthening of stability and security in the Sahel and Sahara region, which is now facing enormous and growing security threats," diplomat told the Committee of 24 (C24).
Warning that these threats are linked to terrorism, transnational organized crime and all kinds of trafficking, Roberts welcomed Morocco's "efforts to strengthen regional and subregional cooperation in order to meet these challenges".
She also welcomed the return of Morocco to the African Union, believing that this reintegration "will have a positive impact on the socio-economic development of Africa and contribute to consolidating peace and stability on the continent".
Mrs Roberts also welcomed the holding in September 2015 and October 2016, in a "peaceful, transparent and democratic atmosphere" of the municipal and legislative elections, which enabled the Sahara inhabitants to elect their local and national levels.
