The Fisheries Agreement between Morocco and the European Union (EU) benefits the Moroccan Sahara "through its support for social and economic development and sustainable management of natural resources", Danish foreign affairs minister Anders Samuelsen said.

"According to the most recent report, which is about to be published, it is stated that the fisheries agreement benefits the Sahara region through its support for social and economic development and the sustainable management of natural resources," the minister pointed out at a recent meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee at the Danish Parliament.

Denmark’s position on this issue is that “the estimates of the effects of the fisheries agreement are based on the analyses of the European Commission", he pointed out.

"The Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) carry out regular checks of the fisheries agreement between the EU and Morocco," he said, adding that "as part of this monitoring, evaluation reports are published with comments made by independent experts.”
