The creation of puppet entities is part of the desperate attempts of the "Polisario" and its Algerian sponsor, to mislead the international public opinion about the ins and outs of the Sahara issue, President of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid said on Tuesday.

"These entities have no existence or popular representation," he stressed in a statement to MAP, adding that elected officials are the legitimate representatives of the population of the Moroccan Sahara.

"The legitimate representation of the population is embodied by the elected officials according to the democratic standards around the world, and also, in the case of the Sahara, by local Chioukhs and notables," Ould Errachid added.

Such a type of entity is "reusing" frameworks created periodically by Algeria and the Polisario whenever the UN Security Council prepares to examine the question of the Moroccan Sahara, Ould Errachid added.

"The unity of Morocco is one and indivisible and the Moroccan law applies from Tangier to Lagouira without exception," stressed the President of the region Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra.

Moroccans may have different views on political, economic or social issues, but they are all united behind HM the King to defend the unity of the country, he added.

The inhabitants of the Sahara follow in the footsteps of their forefathers by reaffirming their unwavering attachment and ties of allegiance to HM the King and the glorious Alawite throne, as expressed in the historic Declaration of Laayoune that was adopted by all Moroccan political parties in 2018, Ould Errachid underlined.

He also highlighted the constant mobilization of the population of this region against any attempt to undermine the Kingdom's integrity and territorial unity.

To these maneuvers of Algeria and the Polisario, Morocco responds with the new development model of the southern provinces and the autonomy plan, which is a credible and serious proposal to resolve the Sahara issue, the official explained.

Despite the impact of the pandemic of the new Coronavirus, development projects under this model are progressing at a steady pace, contributing to the consolidation of the stability that already prevails in the region, he concluded.
