MEPs spoke out against the silence of the European Commission regarding the misue of humanitarian aid by Polisario, revealed by the report of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF), published in 2015.

In a question to the European Commission with request of written answer, MEPs Dominique Bilde and Steeve Briois say that there was a "systematic abuse" of part of EU humanitarian aid to populations in Tindouf camps , "organized by several Sahrawi dignitaries and some Algerian authorities."

MEPs add that at a hearing of the director in charge of humanitarian aid from the European Commission DG-ECHO in July 2015, he also mentioned that Algeria subjected a tax of 5% on 10 million euros of European humanitarian aid paid annually to the Tindouf camps. According to one estimate, they add, the EU would have paid over the last thirty years between 10 and 15 million euros in taxes to Algeria.

MEPs regret that resolution, they have co-signed, was filed in March 2015 on this subject and was not followed, asking the EU executive to take action on this issue since the publication of the OLAF report .

MEPs also ask whether humanitarian aid to the Tindouf camps has been suspended since and if Algeria has explained this misappropriation and transparent census measures have been taken ?

The issue of misuse of humanitarian aid by Polisario is a major concern at European and international levels.

It was also discussed recently at the 4th UN Committee in New York.
