Morocco welcomed with "satisfaction" the resolution 1979, adopted unanimously Wednesday by the UN Security Council extending for one year the MINURSO mandate, and welcomed the call of the Executive Body for a population census in Tindouf, Algeria.

The United Nations Security Council extended, on Wednesday, for another year the mandate of the MINURSO and urged, for the first time, Algeria to allow the High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) conduct a population census in the Tindouf camps (Algeria's south-west).

U.S. rights NGOs say situation in Tindouf camps 'precarious' call on SC to take into account autonomy proposal 4/22/2011
A group of U.S. human rights NGOs sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban ki-moon on the "precarious" living conditions in the Tindouf camps (Algeria's south-west) and the "vulnerable" situation of the population held against their will in these camps.
