 Spain confident over success of Sahara talks process, Spanish Deputy PM   10/10/2008

 Spain voiced, here Thursday, its confidence over the success of the UN-led Sahara talks in Manhasset and its efforts to find a lasting solution that is acceptable to both parties.  "We are actively working to find a lasting solution that is acceptable to all parties and which will put an end to this conflict," declared Spanish Deputy Prime Minister, Maria Teresa De La Vega, following a meeting with the Prime minister, Abbas El Fassi.   

  


 Persistence of tension could transform the Maghreb into a terrorism base (Mr. Boussif)   10/9/2008

Mr. El Mami Boussif, member of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS) and President of the region of Oued Eddahab-Lagouira, warned on Wednesday in New York against the persistence of tension around the artificial problem Sahara that could transform the Maghreb region into base for terrorism. Former special representative of UN Secretary-General for the Sahara, Erik Jensen, said Wednesday before the 4th United Nations commission that autonomy is the only solution to the Sahara, stressing that "Polisario should abandon some of its aspirations. "

The "polisario front" is currently in a state of advanced disintegration which actually poses a serious threat to the stability of the region, said a report by the European strategic Intelligence and security center (ESISC), released on Tuesday.
