  Morocco will accept nothing but autonomy within the kingdom's sovereignty   11/7/2007

 King Mohammed VI on Tuesday made it clear that Morocco will accept nothing but autonomy for its Southern Provinces (the Sahara) under the Kingdom's sovereignty. "Whatever the nature of the consensual solution to which a serious, comprehensive, strategic negotiating process might lead, Morocco, its King and people, will not accept anything but autonomy, within the framework of a single, unified State," The monarch said in a nationwide speech marking the 32nd anniversary of the Green March.  Morocco welcomes with satisfaction the Security council’s new resolution on Sahara   11/1/2007

The Moroccan ambassador, and permanent representative to the United Nations Mr El Mustapha Sahel  underlined that  the Kingdom of Morocco welcomed with satisfaction the new resolution (1783) adopted earlier by the United Nations security council on the Sahara issue . The Moroccan diplomat made it clear that “this new resolution consecrates the negotiation process, which aims at reaching a negotiated political settlement to this artificial dispute that has lasted too long”.  His Majesty the King paid a tribute to France for supporting Morocco’s SAHARA initiative   10/24/2007

In a speech delivered by King Mohammed VI, yesterday at the Royal palace in Marakech, at an exchange of toasts during a dinner hosted in honour of the French president Nicholas Sarkozy, the Moroccan sovereign welcomed the president of the French republic, and the important delegation accompanying him. His Majesty the king mentioned the fact that the French president has chosen Morocco for his first state visit outside Europe, which attests the exceptional character of the relationship between the two countries.

  


  Sarkozy wishes parties reach 'mutually acceptable solution  10/22/2007

French President Nicholas Sarkozy has wished that the parties to the Sahara issue reach a mutually acceptable solution to end the 32 year-long dispute opposing Morocco and the Algerian-backed separatist movement "Polisario". "My hope, which is that of the International Community, is that the parties find together a just and mutually acceptable solution" the French president said in an interview with MAP prior to his three-day official visit to Morocco starting Monday afternoon.

  


 Over 120 British MPs support Moroccan Autonomy Plan for Sahara  10/18/2007

A hundred and twenty-one members of the British House of Commons have signed a motion that lends support to the Moroccan initiative to negotiate an autonomy statute in the Sahara region in a bid to solve the 32-year-old dispute over this former Spanish colony.
