The Commission cannot minimize the impact of these embezzlements on the EU budget and as long as parliament has not sufficient evidence on this issue it will seek clarification

The massive embezzlement by Polisario of humanitarian aid to populations sequestered in Tindouf camps in Algeria was discussed again at the European Parliament.

Several MEPs reject the policy of fait accompli and do not accept that the EU fails to tackle this matter because it is European taxpayers' money being misused.

This is the case of MEP Hugues Bayet (S&D) who recently questioned the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security, Federica Mogherini on the action reserved to the report of the Office European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) which revealed that varying amounts of assistance funded by the European Commission are diverted from their intended recipients for several years by Polisario under the watchful eye of Algiers.

According to OLAF, this is not an episodic traffic, par of regularity and in which are involved Polisario leaders with logistical and organizational support from Algeria.

MEP said that last year, following the revelations, the European Parliament had asked the European Commission to undertake a detailed assessment '' of the number of aid recipients to ensure that people in Tindouf camps are the recipients of this aid, noting that '' they are the first victims of these irregularities. ''

MEP also regrets that the press release following last EU-Morocco Association Council remained very vague and that  there is no mention of the problem in Tindouf camps '' in Algeria, including the conclusions of the OLAF report that pointed 'overestimation' of the number of aid recipients.

The diversion of humanitarian assistance to the populations of Tindouf remains without impunity and European Union has still not taken action to support the financial abyss of tens of millions of euros wasted by Polisario, helped by Algeria.

MEPs, experts and officials of all stripes continue to attract the attention of European institutions on this issue which shows a flagrant lack of vigilance on the part of the EU as revealed by OLAF.

For MEP Gilles Pargneaux, as the European Parliament is not sufficient evidence on this issue, it will ask whenever clarification from the European Commission on the destiny of European taxpayers' money and about OLAF report, he said in a recent statement to MAP.

The European Commission, he explained, cannot underestimate the impact of these massive diversions on the EU budget.

The EU executive has granted annually since 1991 10 million euros expected to reach populations in Tindouf camps in Algeria.
Following the irregularities that plague the delivery of this assistance, several international organizations have decided to suspend or reduce their subsidies, particularly WFP and UNHCR.

In Spain, trade union Manos Limpias recently filed a complaint against Spanish NGOs and Polisario for embezzlement of humanitarian aid. It accuses the president of the Spanish Coordination of solidarity associations with the Sahara (CEAS-Sahara), Jose Taboada, as well as leaders of pseudo-SADR to cause fraud of 20 million euros and massive diversion of aid to the population of Tindouf.

The Union blames manipulating data on the number of aid recipients, embezzlement and sale of food products in neighboring countries for the purpose of financing terrorist projects and purchasing weapons for the benefit Polisario and Algeria.
