The Sahara has always been a Moroccan land and the conflict over its Moroccan identity was created by other countries, said Peruvian deputy Ronaldo Reategui.

The Sahara has always been, throughout the history, a Moroccan land, and the conflict over its Moroccan identity was created by other countries to serve their own interests, he told MAP on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony of Peruvian president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, which was held recently in Lima.

The autonomy initiative, submitted by Morocco in 2007 to solve this artificial long-running conflict (over 4 decades), is the ideal proposal that should be lauded, he said, stressing his country's support for this crucial initiative which could develop the Maghreb region.

Morocco is a successful model in the region in terms of achieving development for the benefit of citizens thanks to the insight of HM the King, he said, underlining that Peru is very grateful to HM the King, a great friend of Peruvian people.
