Bahrain's foreign minister, Cheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed Al Khalifa, stressed, Monday before the 71st session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), the need for a political settlement to the "Moroccan Sahara" issue "on the basis of the autonomy initiative," presented by Morocco.

“Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Bahrain stresses the need to find a political settlement on the basis of the autonomy initiative and the relevant Security Council resolutions that ensure the territorial integrity of Morocco, and consolidate security and stability in the region,” underlined the Bahraini official during the general debate.

The minister also hailed “the return of Morocco to the African Union and the resumption of its vital role in Africa."
