The National Office for Vocational Training and Work Promotion (OFPPT) launched on Monday construction work on its 5th City of Trades and Skills (CMC) in the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region.

This is a "new generation" establishment which will deploy a particularly diversified training offer focused on sectors with high potential and in perfect complementarity with the existing system, said an OFPPT press release.


Given the major interest that this new CMC represents in favor of regional economic development, the training was drawn up in consultation with professionals and various stakeholders in the region in order to meet the skills needs and promote employability of young people, said the same source.


Innovative and at the forefront of technology, CMC Laâyoune will deploy a total of 46 sectors (70% of which are newly created) in 6 major activity sectors, in line with the region's ecosystem.


With a capacity of 2000 trainees per year, the City will bring together  Digital & Offshoring poles with a Digital Factory, Management & Commerce, Virtual Simulation, Health Company, Simulation Center, Logistics & Transport, driving tracks, Fishing, indoor swimming pool for training in first aid, first aid and occupational safety, and Crafts department.


The area of the CMC Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra will be spread over 15 hectares of land, including 9 hectares reserved for future extensions, forming part of the heritage of the private domains of the State, in the city of Laâyoune, and will mobilize a overall budget of MAD 300 million, two thirds of which will be dedicated to Studies and Construction Works.




The development of transversal and technical skills will be at the heart of the training of interns, through the various educational spaces that will be made available to them, in particular the language and softskills center, Career Center,  co-training spaces, Digital Factory, business incubator, media library ...The CMC will also be equipped with meeting spaces, sports fields and cafeteria, as well as a trainees' house, offering accommodation and catering capacity of 300 beds and covers.


The construction of the multisectoral vocational training platform will be carried out according to a 15-month schedule, the statement said, ensuring that all preventive measures in force to fight against the Coronavirus pandemic will be implemented and respected on the construction sites.


At the level of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, the OFPPT is committed to supporting regional actors in the development effort and providing support for the development plan of the southern provinces, in particular through diversification and reengineering of its training offer to meet the qualified human resource needs of businesses in the region, the strengthening and modernization of its network of establishments and the increase in the number of teaching places.


The region's OFPPT training system currently offers 8,300 educational places through a network of 8 vocational training establishments covering 6 sectors of activity (Industry, Tertiary, NTIC & Offshoring, Transport and Logistics, Hotel and Tourism, BTP ) on 4 levels of training (Specialized Technician, Technician, Qualification and Specialization) in addition to Bac Pro, College course and Qualifying Training.


The opening of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra CMC, scheduled for the start of the 2021-2022 training year, will thus increase OFPPT's reception capacity in the region to more than 10,000 educational places.-News on Western Sahara / Corcas-
