The program of this meeting, chaired by the president of the CRDH, Maimouna Essayed, focused in particular on the presentation of the report of the commission in 2019, the main lines of the internal regulations and deontological, as well as the development of its action plan for the period 2021-2023.
Emphasis was placed on the various activities that have been organized by this structure, related to the protection, promotion and consecration of the culture of human rights at the regional level and the capacity building of people active in the field.
These include consultation meetings on the effectiveness of human rights, meetings with members of the African community in Dakhla, others on the right to education of children, as well as communication meetings for the benefit of sub-Saharan associations and civil society associations working in the field of migration in the region, around post-lock-down hygiene and security measures.
The commission also carried out 12 visits to the penitentiary establishment in Dakhla and found 25 sit-ins of protest, in addition to various interventions in terms of mediation.
In a statement to the press, Ms. Essayed indicated that this first meeting was marked by the creation of standing committees, namely the committee for the protection of human rights, committee for the promotion of the culture of Human Rights and the committee for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of human rights in public policies and regional programs.
In the same vein, she noted that these thematic working groups will not only focus on anticipatory interventions and mediation, but they will be responsible, in accordance with the law governing the National Council for Human Rights (CNDH), of the preparation of reports and recommendations on several issues relating to the practice of human rights in the region.
The CRDH holds three ordinary sessions per year and can also hold extraordinary sessions at the initiative of the President of the Council, she said.
CNDH chief Amina Bouayach presided in early September in Dakhla the installation ceremony of the new members of CRDH from Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.
This commission is made up of 21 members proposed by the regional representative bodies of magistrates, lawyers, doctors, ulemas and professional journalists, regional associations and observatories for human rights and personalities active in the field of protection and promotion of human rights.
