China reiterates support for all initiatives aimed at finding peaceful solution 2/6/2008
The Chinese Director General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs in the Chinese Foreign Ministry reaffirmed his country's full support to "any useful actions and initiatives" aimed at reaching a "peaceful and rapid" solution to the Sahara dispute, a solution that enjoys the approval of the parties concerned. In an interview with the Egyptian news agency MENA, released on Tuesday, the Chinese official said his country's "position of principles" with regard to the Sahara issue "is based on the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council" pertaining to this subject.

Japan reiterates its support to a peaceful and negotiated solution to the Sahara issue 2/5/2008
The Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Yasuhide Nakayama, reiterated, in Rabat Monday, the support of his country to a peaceful and negotiated solution to the Sahara issue, within the framework of the United Nations. In a statement to the press after a meeting with Ms. Latifa Akharbach, State Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, the Japanese official insisted on the importance of stability in the Maghreb and the strengthening of ties between countries in the region.

Seventeen Sahrawi families exchange new HCR-led family visits 2/4/2008
A new HCR-led family visit exchange was organized on Friday by the UN mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) between family members living in Morocco's Southern Provinces, The Sahara, and their relatives in the Polisario-run Tindouf camps, south-western Algeria.Thirty-four people from eight families from the southern province of Dakhla flew to the Tindouf camps in the morning, while thirty-three members of nine families traveled from these camps to Dakhla, in the 4th visit exchange since the beginning of 2008, a press release of the Moroccan Office of Coordination with MINURSO said.

U.S. reiterates support to UN efforts to settle Sahara issue 1/31/2008
U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, reiterated on Wednesday the United States' firm support to the efforts of the United Nations Organization to settle the Sahara dispute between Morocco and the Algerian-backed separatist movement, The Polisario. During a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Affairs Minister, Taieb Fassi Fihri, the two officials tackled the Sahara issue and the efforts of the UN aiming to find a solution to this issue, said State Department spokesman, Sean McCormack, adding that Ms. Rice expressed, in this regard, her firm support and that of the US government to these efforts.
