The announcement of this meeting was made on Saturday night in Rabat by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Saâd-Dine El Otmani, at a joint press conference with his counterparts from other countries members of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), following the works of their 30th meeting.

 It is worth noting that this round was originally planned for the month of February, before being postponed until March.

 The eighth round of informal talks on the Sahara took place in July 2011 in Manhasset in the presence of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Polisario.
