By voting overwhelmingly in these elections, as during the 2007 legislative elections, these people have "overwhelmingly rejected" Polisario’s separatist or identification option supported by Algeria, says the report made public in Rabat .
Observers of the ISSA have noted a high participation of women in this region, according to the Washington-based NGO.
For Sahrawi voters, "beyond the simple choice of representatives, this voting is recognition of fundamental human rights and control over their own destiny," says the NGO.
The participation rate recorded in the southern provinces ranged from 58 pc in Laâyoune and 69 pc in Boujdour, whereas the national average is 52.4 pc.
Concerning the conduct of elections throughout the territory of Morocco, observers from the International Association of Strategic Studies said that the voting fulfilled "all the criteria of a democratic election." According to the NGO "no irregularity or violation was found by the observers deployed in several polling stations chosen at random throughout the Kingdom.
These observers have noted a high degree of professionalism, great sense of responsibility and great knowledge of procedures among the heads of polling stations, "says the Association.
The ISSA, an international NGO that conducts, since 1982, research on governance and regionalization in the world, took the services of the American Center for Democracy (ACD) to cover the communal elections of June 12
