The Italian city of Casteldaccia, province of Palermo (Sicily), expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy Initiative under the Kingdom's sovereignty to solve the Sahara issue.

This came in a joint statement released by the Casteldaccia town council and Morocco’s consulate General in Palermo on the occasion of the signing, over the weekend, of a memorandum of understanding and collaboration.

Recalling that the UN has described the Initiative as "serious and credible", the Casteldaccia town council expressed its willingness to "support it, in keeping with the stand already taken by the Sicily region and Scily's autonomy parliament."

This initiative is "likely to guarantee a negotiated consensual political solution to the Sahara conflict," the town council said.

It lauded the development process underway in Morocco in the area of democracy, human rights, the economy and the promotion of women’s conditions.
