Warburg told MAP she was impressed by the ongoing development efforts in the economic, social and human rights fields in the southern provinces.

The development projects in terms of housing, infrastructure, education, vocational training and irrigation have been achieved in a record time, she said.

Warburg, who met senior officials in the region, said that she will inform the British public opinion about the situation in the southern provinces.

During her meetings with local officials and representatives of the civil society, Warburg was briefed on the latest development on the Sahara issue in light of Morocco's initiative to grant substantive autonomy to its southern province.

The meetings were also an opportunity to highlight Morocco’s human rights achievements and the enlargement of public freedoms in the southern provinces.

Warburg also met several people who managed to flee torture in the camps of Tindouf (south-western Algeria) and joined their homeland Morocco. They recounted facets of the suffering endured by the population held against their will in the polisario-run camps and underlined that their return to the Kingdom stems from their deep conviction that the polisario thesis is baseless.

Warburg also visited several socio-economic projects and was informed of the investment potentials in the region.
