Speaking before the 4th Committee of the UN General Assembly, the representative of Gabon at the meeting, Ms. Lilly Stella Ngyema Ndong, stressed that her country welcomed the measures that the Kingdom of Morocco was continuing to undertake in the human rights and development of the Sahara region, which is currently experiencing "significant economic and social development".
It also welcomed the holding of municipal and regional elections in September 2015 and parliamentary elections in October 2016, in which the people of the Sahara voted overwhelmingly.
"We encourage all countries in the region, as recommended in Security Council resolution 2351, to cooperate and work together to ensure stability and socio-economic development," she said. the involvement of all will help minimize the risk of destabilization caused by terrorist activities and will consolidate stability and security in the Sahel region.
